Senior UX Designer:

As a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer with MasterControl, you'll work with our product management team to research, conceptualize, map out, test and delivery experiences that make people more effective and efficient in their work in a delightful and meaningful way.

Role and Responsibilities Summary:

The Senior User Experience (UX) Designer has a solid understanding and application of user research, interaction and visual design. As a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer, you should be comfortable connecting, observing and interviewing customers and users. Defining problems, personas and jobs to be done in the context of the problem or user need. Defining and creating site/application structure, interaction flows, wireframes and interface requirements, as well as, the visual style for the site/application including layout, color, typography and iconography. Further, you should have an understanding of what it takes to bring an application to life, such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and so forth. You should have a deep appreciation for simple, clean, usable interfaces. A focus on user-centered design, and an understanding of the way effective designs achieve business goals is a must. You should also be able to interpret user and customer needs, present design concepts, and effectively communicate with stakeholders, customers and users.

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you will create, manage and execute the user experience strategy and plan in cross-functional teams that include Product Managers, Product Owners, Business Unit representatives and Engineering teams. You will follow and contribute to the development of best practices for the realization of designs and proper delivery of collateral. You live in the world where business goals, research, user needs, and experiences overlap, and arm themselves with those understandings to drive towards standard-setting and industry-leading solutions. As a Senior User Experience Designer, you value success, risk and failure equally.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets an example and creates opportunities to foster collaborative cross-discipline dynamics. Drives UX team delivery excellence, furthering internal and external UX influence and goals.
  • Formally mentors other UX practitioners in best practices, process and methodology.
  • Create personas, information architecture diagrams, user experience workflows, wireframes, and interactive Hi-fidelity prototypes.
  • Lead out the planning and execution of user research and usability testing. 
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale.
  • Present user experience approaches to non-design audiences.
  • Ensure consistency throughout the systems being designed.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, product management, visual designers, and developers, by using participatory, collaborative and iterative design techniques.
  • Be a UX evangelist, helping people understand the value of UX activities.
  • Lead and managing the design/UX phase of the product development process, ensuring that the end user is always in focus and that usability and good design are top priorities.
  • Working closely with marketing and branding teams to ensure we are executing design in a manner that is consistent with brand vision and all user touch points.
  • Managing your own workflow, documentation, and deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Being extremely attentive to detail, architectural on approach to design, and a driving force in UI quality standards with modular, reusable solutions.
  • Appreciates critical feedback (both giving and receiving) and seeks it out in reviews with peers, stakeholders and research. Really listens to the feedback and can balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, inputs when arriving at a final design.
  • Contributes to the creation, adoption and improvement of MasterControl's patterns and guidelines and their consistent deployment across various website/applications properties.
  • Be positive and contributing team player.
  • Supporting cross-functional teams in the planning and execution of Epics, to Feature, to Stories within a SAFe (Agile) SDLC.
  • Excellent problem solver and requirements gatherer in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly experiment, test and iterate user interface concepts.
  • Lead and create story maps, journey maps, user scenarios, diagrams, and other artifacts to reflect information architecture and user flows.
  • Ability to research, perform contextual interviews, analyze trends, validate assumptions and solutions.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from a 4-year University or art school, degree in Human Computer Interaction (or equivalent experience).
  • 6-8+ years of experience designing successful interactive websites/applications as a key member of a user experience team.
  • Expert Illustrator/Photoshop knowledge, experience with Sketch, RealtimeBoard, OmniGraffle, or Visio a plus.
  • Familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript concepts and modern browser capabilities. Including Bootstrap, HTML5 and CSS3. Other coding skills not required but considered a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles, web design best practices, visual trends and emerging web technologies.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including business development, product management, and engineering.
  • Ability to lead and carry the design vision through to completion in an agile development environment.
  • Ability to create high-fidelity mockups and clickable prototypes using tools such as Sketch and InVisionApp.
  • Ability to work as a part of a highly collaborative team, listen effectively, accept feedback openly, and respect other's perspectives and contributions.
  • Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • A sense of humor and passion for adventure is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • Visual design.
  • Basic understanding of Lean UX and Design Thinking.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic understanding of mobile design patterns on the major platforms (iOS, Android).
  • Portfolio needs to show applied knowledge of usability, user-centered design, and content strategy.
  • Portfolio should show strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking, displaying attention to detail in every aspect.
