JOB SUMMARY:

The Director/Vice President of Marketing leads the Marketing and Sales Development teams in finding all potential prospects in our target markets, developing relationships of trust with potential prospects, determining which potential prospects have pending projects, and managing the process of educating and qualifying potential prospects as sales opportunities including those prospects in our current customer base.  This role includes the management of all tools, budget and personnel that are involved in the promotion, advertising and branding of the Company.  The Director/Vice President of Marketing also contributes to product direction activities and coordinates with product management research on new markets and new products. The Director/Vice President of Marketing serves on the senior management team and is responsible to provide general leadership and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee lead generation programs and initiatives to produce forecasted number of qualified opportunities
  • In connection with Product Management, research markets for which new product initiatives are being considered, creating financial forecasts that can be used to assist in product investment decision making.
  • Build a long term plan for marketing products and services to our current customer base with a  focus on building recurring revenue and upselling product and services to customers.
  • Manage Marketing department activities to produce the number of leads needed to meet opportunity generation targets.
  • Recruit and develop staff through ongoing training, informal feedback and special projects tailored to the career development objectives of each direct report and the growth of the business skills of each marketing associate.
  • Develop capability to forecast target market size, adoption rate and market share
  • Lead communications strategy and program development, both external and internal, covering all forms of advertising and public relations, such as search engine optimization (SEO), websites, blogs, direct mail, newsletters, trade ads and shows, , events and loyalty programs.
  • Develop/update and manage annual strategic marketing plan including forecasting and budgeting.
  • Maintain a 5-year plan for marketing including market share, number of leads, opportunities, new customers and other relevant metrics
  • Assist in research and competitive/data analysis efforts to determine competitor strategy and product positioning and overall market economic and IT trends.
  • Facilitate the creation of necessary marketing related sales collateral/tools (product collateral, sales tools (coordinating with sales leadership), case studies, white papers, press releases, etc.
  • Create and track increased brand awareness and leads through web presence, advertising, tradeshows, webinars, customer communications and other means.
  • Participate in senior management meetings and periodic management and senior management retreats.
  • Manage the tasks, schedules, and performance of the Sales Development team and Marketing personnel
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and set performance objectives and career development goals with each direct report.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to operate a computer and work at a desk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, over the telephone and in e-mail
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and travel as required
  • Bending, stooping and lifting are integral aspects of this position

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 15+ years marketing and marketing management experience with direct reports.
  • 8-10 years of experience in strategic market planning, forecasting and budgeting.
  • 8-10 years of experience in digital and content marketing strategies with a deep understanding of SEO.
  • Experience in leading and executing customer segmentation projects.
  • Exceptional understanding of the enterprise software market.
  • Career focus on the life sciences industry is a plus (also manufacturing and SMB market)
  • Successful track record in leading and integrating cross-functional teams of all types including, but not limited to, those for new product or market development.
  • Experience with direct and indirect sales channels
  • Experience in building international sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Leadership demonstrated in ability to develop staff through coaching, mentoring, training, setting goals, and performance objectives with each direct report, providing timely informal, conducting performance evaluations and career development planning.
  • College degree preferably in a business or engineering field; MBA preferred.
